Leonard Henderson's mother passes on July 29, 2010 On Monday the 19th at about 3pm, my dear mother suffered a major ischemic stroke.  In the hospital, she was able to talk, but her left side wasn't working.  She could see and hear.  Later, brain swelling caused her not to be able to talk.  She couldn't drink or eat.  She was opening her eyes and could communicate by right hand squeeze meaning Yes and shake her head NO. Mom was a grizzly old Registered Nurse and she knew exactly what was wrong with her- and what her future in this condition would entail.  She was resigned to not wanting to live with that disability and refused to be fed with a tube or hydrated intravenously. My brother-in-law took me over there on the 22nd.  The hospital set up a cot at the hospital in her room so I could be with mom.  This turned out very well, because I could sit in a wheelchair and use the hospital oxygen.  All the other family that had arrived had plenty of other things they needed to do, so I was able to visit with and watch over my mom 24 hours a day. On July 28 at 3:10 am, mom took her last breath.  She needed no pain meds and endured her descent peacefully and gracefully.  She was 81 years old. Throughout her life, mom helped uncountable numbers of people, both as a nurse and as a friend and neighbor.  If I attempted to extol her life, I could account for only a very small portion of it.   My mom lived a truly virtuous and honorable life of helping others.  She did not have an enemy in the world. I am very proud of my mother, and hope that I imitate her Christian desire to help others who hurt or in need. Or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Mark's medical license suspended By: Mt Juliet News Staff Posted: Thursday, July 29, 2010 2:37 pm July 21, 2010 - The Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners suspended the medical license of Lebanon pediatrician Dr. Deborah Mark Tuesday afternoon. Mark, who lives in Mt. Juliet, was indicted along with her husband, Steven Mark, on July 12 by a Wilson County grand jury. Deborah Mark was charged with one count of felony murder, one count of perpetration of aggravated child abuse, one count of aggravated child abuse and four counts of child abuse, stemming from the death of her adopted 4-year-old daughter. Steven Mark was charged by the grand jury with one count of aggravated child abuse and neglect, one count of criminal responsibility for aggravated child abuse, one count of aggravated assault by failure to protect, four counts of child abuse and one count of accessory after the fact. Both Deborah and Steven Mark remain out of jail on bond. Deborah Mark posted a total bond of $150,000 on the afternoon of July 12, while Steven Mark posted a total bond of $100,000 the same day. Mt. Juliet Police investigators have alleged that "the fatal blow was given by the mother." The board notified Mark of its intent to pursue action to prohibit her ability to practice medicine in Tennessee. As a result, she agreed to surrender her license until the board decides its next steps, which will come at the conclusion of her criminal case. Tuesday afternoon, the board heard details of the consent order and determined that her license should be suspended. A copy of the order shows signatures by Mark, her attorney Jack Lowery Jr., Sara A. Whitehead, assistant general counsel for the Tennessee Department of Health Office of General Counsel – all dated (Monday) July 19 – as well as the signature of Mitchell Mutter, M.D., chairperson of the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners. The couple also have an 8-year-old biological child, who as of July 12, was in state custody. Mt. Juliet Police Detective Bonnie Harris indicated at a press conference that same day that this child did witness some of the abuse, which Harris categorized as "the worse case I've ever seen."
