By all accounts this little girl was severely abused and mistreated. There were still bruises on her face the day she testified in court against her FOSTER mother. As the result of the Mary Ellen case, the New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children was founded, what many now believe to be the birth of Child Protective Services. Foster

A Warning for Kids about Chat Rooms!
A News Tidbit about kids smoking- Cigarette TV ads have been banned since January 2, 1971. Since that time THOUSANDS of Public Service Announcements (PSA) have been run. The "Cool Joe Camel" magazine and billboard ads were obviously aimed right at kids, so beginning in 1998, those ads have been banned too. Here's what the bans and PSA's have produced- Somebody isn't paying attention!
